SUSAN KANA

Susan is serving in Cambodia doing some health education, but her main work is discipleship and church planting.  She is busy learning Kmer, the native language, getting to know the people, and earning their trust.  World Team is registered with the Cambodian Government as a church planting organization so the Gospel can be openly proclaimed without fear of persecution

Keeping in touch across the miles: E-mails from Susan
17 March 2007,

"I study the Bible. I am God's student."

Samuen, the monk I have known now for nearly a year and one of the monks Pherien and I teach the Bible in English to each week - - - called me today and said this to me in English. Two short lines that made my day.

Samuen is still at the Wat in his robe and some may wonder why I can still get excited about this. Samuen is 2nd in line at the Wat which means if the head monk leaves, he becomes the "Head Monk." How can I get excited about someone who is nearly head monk but says he is God's students? Well, for as long as he is there he can have quite an influence on the others. Is he really one of God's students? Yes, he is . . . . but is he one of His children? Only God knows that for sure. All Pherien and I can do is be faithful to God in teaching and spending time with Samuen and the rest of the group each week. The rest is up to God.

For the past 2 weeks now Samuen has brought in patients from Neak Lueng twice a week for medical work which in itself is a bit out of the ordinary. Monks "work hours" are in the morning going to Buddhist ceremonies, funerals etc but he is able to be excused from these duties. He is in Phnom Penh with his mother now as she is sick and I will meet them for breakfast in the morning and then take them to the CSI Clinic. After that he and his mother are coming to my house for lunch. Lunch must be served and finished before 12 o'clock as monks can eat only 2 times a day and never after noon.

Please pray for my time together with the both of them. Pray for all of the monks. For right now, Samuen is the only one who gets involved in the spiritual side of the study. I think the others are maily there for the English study. Pray God will use it all for them to get to know Him.

Hope all is well with you. I got a bit off schedule with my Sunday notes. One Sunday I was in Bangkok for my yearly physical; last week I was in Neak Lueng for 3 days where we had a Baptism . . . . . and I had a major computer problem. I lost my entire In-Box of 83 messages and not sure how much of my Send Box. I am trying to get everything back in order again.

Thank You once againto all who share in this work and give so generously. Until next week . . . .

With Love,
Susan
